Aegon became involved in the wars in the Disputed Lands when Pentos and Tyrosh approached him, inviting him to join a grand alliance against Volantis, and he chose to heed their call. After the other four of Aenar's dragons died, Balerion became the last creature to have seen the Freehold in its prime.īalerion was eventually claimed by Lord Aegon Targaryen, some time before he married his sisters Visenya and Rhaenys. He was born in Valyria, and was one of the five dragons Aenar Targaryen brought with him when he fled to Dragonstone to survive the Doom of Valyria. History Originīalerion was named after an ancient god of the Valyrian Freehold. īalerion was willful, and not a beast to trifle with. Prince Viserys believed the dragon no longer had the strength to fly from King's Landing to Dragonstone. When Prince Viserys Targaryen claimed the dragon that year, the dragon struggled to take to the air. He had grown sluggish and heavy and was difficult to rouse. By 93 AC, Balerion had finally stopped growing. His teeth were as long as swords, and his jaws were large enough to swallow an aurochs whole, or even one of the hairy mammoths that are said to roam the cold wastes beyond the Port of Ibben. His wingspan was so large that his shadow could engulf entire towns when he passed overhead. īalerion was the largest of all the Targaryen dragons since Aegon's Conquest. When he was in the fullness of his power, his flames could melt steel and stone, and fuse sand into glass. His fire was black, sometimes with swirls of red.

Have you ever wanted to buy a game on Steam but didn't know if it was good? Have you ever had just enough money for an indie game but didn't know whether it was worth buying? Have you ever asked yourself, "Should I buy this game ?" It seems that it might be getting lost with other services that Spotify is planning to offer together. It’s really disappointing that almost two years after its initial announcement, the promised HiFi music plan doesn’t seem to be close to reality. However, at $19.99 per month, it would be twice as expensive as Apple Music and Amazon Music. If all of the above features supposedly listed in the survey are actually offered in a Spotify Platinum plan, it would be more features than has been mentioned so far. If the anecdotal account was accurate, Spotify is planning to offer premium services for twice the price of its current Premium subscription plan (and possibly soon – but we have heard that part before). That brings us to the latest unofficial news about Spotify’s HiFi plan.Īccording to an anecdotal report from a Spotify user canceling their subscription, a survey popped up during the cancellation process that indicated that a possible Spotify Platinum tier that includes HiFi music access is being considered that will cost $19.99 per month.Īs part of the survey, the soon-to-be non-Spotify user asked if they would consider returning to Spotify if a new Platinum plan was offered with the following features: With 2023 quickly approaching, there is still no Spotify HiFi music listening option.Īlso, during the time period that Spotify has lagged in offering HiFi music options, that option has been offered by both Apple Music and Amazon Music, and high-res streaming services such as TIDAL and Qobuz have also attracted serious music lovers. Anticipation was high, but nothing materialized in mid or late 2021, and nothing in 2022. It was first reported that Spotify was going to offer a “HiFi” music plan back in February of 2021. Tip: Apple Music is number 2, Amazon Music is number 3, Pandora is number 5, and TIDAL is number 8 - unfortunately, Qobuz is not in the top ten (yet). Their recent Q2 financial report also delivered some good news regarding revenue, but not everyone agrees that Spotify is as strong as it needs to be. Spotify is the largest music streaming service in the world, with 350 million users and 150 million paid subscribers. We also don’t know how much more all of this might cost consumers Apple Music and Amazon Music took Spotify by surprise when they launched their lossless platforms and kept the pricing at current levels. Spotify is doing this to placate investors who wish to see greater revenue from the streaming giant. There will be an option to purchase more the new feature will be launched outside of the U.S. To sweeten the deal, “Premium” tier subscribers will also receive expanded access to audiobooks, which will either mean a specific number of hours free per month or a specific number of titles. It will also not be launching in the United States or Canada first. Spotify’s new Premium tier will apparently include a lossless or hi-res option for subscribers. The rumor mill is rife with reports this morning that the arrival of Spotify’s Hi-Fi streaming service is imminent. We have been reporting for over two years about the impending launch of Spotify Hi-Fi. iOS 8.3 was the first version of iOS to have public beta testing available, where users could test the beta for upcoming releases of iOS and send feedback to Apple about bugs and issues. The release of iOS 8.1 brought support for the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3, and the release of iOS 8.4 brought support for the iPod Touch (6th generation). All other devices from the iPhone 5 onwards, iPod Touch (6th generation) onwards, the iPad (4th generation) onwards, and the iPad Mini 2 onwards were fully supported. iOS 8 has limited support on the iPad 2, iPhone 4S, iPad (3rd generation), iPad Mini (1st generation), and the iPod Touch (5th generation), as Apple received widespread complaints of extremely poor performance from owners of these devices. With this release, Apple dropped support for the iPhone 4 due to performance issues, and the Apple TV (2nd generation) due to hardware limitations. Īpple announced iOS 8 on June 2, 2014, at its annual Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event, and it was released to the public on September 17, 2014, alongside the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Fixed a security vulnerability involving connections made via SSL and TLS connections.Re-adds the ability to use the Greek keyboard layout when entering a passcode.Fixes an issue that allowed users to bypass the Lock Screen despite being protected with a passcode.Enables the ability to use Touch ID to authenticate purchases made via the iTunes Store.Introduced a new system typeface called Helvetica Neue, replacing Helvetica used in iOS 6 and earlier. It also allowed turning on/off various settings such as Airplane Mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do not Disturb Mode and Rotation Lock. The release of iOS 4.3 added support for the iPad 2. The release of iOS 4.2.1 brought compatibility to the original iPad and was the final release supported on the iPhone 3G and 2nd generation iPod Touch due to significant performance issues. This was also the first major release to be free of charge for iPod Touch users. For example, both devices lacked multitasking, and the ability to set a custom home screen wallpaper. The iPhone 3G and the second generation iPod Touch were capable of running iOS 4, but had more limited features. With this release, Apple dropped support for the original iPhone and the first generation iPod Touch, which is the first time Apple had dropped support for any device in an iOS release. It was the first version of the operating system to be called "iOS", due to the iPad being released. iPhone OS 2Īpple announced iOS 4 in April 2010, and released it to the public on June 21, 2010, alongside the iPhone 4. It was succeeded by iPhone OS 2 on July 11, 2008. iPhone OS 1.1.4 is the final version of iPhone OS 1 for the first generation iPhone, with iPhone OS 1.1.5 being the final version of iPhone OS 1 available for the first generation iPod Touch. IPhone OS 1.1 was the first version supported by the first generation iPod Touch. It also lacked support for third-party native apps, and only supported web apps, which was criticized by reviewers and developers, including John Carmack. IPhone OS 1 was criticized for its lack of support for Adobe Flash web content, copy and paste, and Bluetooth stereo headphones. A number of different user interfaces were prototyped, including one that involved a multi-touch click-wheel. Many on the team were skeptical of the feasibility of a touchscreen keyboard, and believed that users would prefer hardware keyboards. During the development phase of iPhone OS 1, "probably 16, 17 different concepts" were developed. No official name was given when the iPhone was released, and Steve Jobs just said "iPhone runs OS X". Apple announced iPhone OS 1 at the iPhone keynote on January 9, 2007, and it was released to the public alongside the first-generation iPhone on June 29, 2007. Pre-orders begin today, with early access to the alpha version of the game expected soon. 1 day ago What is Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader? Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is a CRPG set in the iconic Games Workshop universe. Greetings, Rogue Traders We are ready to reveal the Alpha release date for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. What should have been an easy and relaxing end to our vacation became aggravating and stressful. In the meantime, my family and I are waiting with the taxi driver for 20 minutes in the unloading zone. When he got the desk, the staff had no idea of the problem and more calls needed to be made. The Super shuttle desk is located at arrivals, so he had to sprint across the airport to make up for all the lost time. We called a few minutes ahead and no one was aware of the situation, so he had to explain it again. Since I had already paid for the car, we literally only had tip money left, so our hotel had to locate a taxi that would drive us and wait at the airport while my husband was to go to the Super Shuttle desk for reimbursement. After 15 additional minutes, my husband called the company to be told that the car had run into some problems and wouldn't be coming! No call from Super Shuttle to let us know. Our pick up time came and went with no car showing up. When the day for our return to the airport arrived, I called Super Shuttle to confirm transportation (which isn't required) we arrived in the lobby, as instructed 15 minutes prior to pick up. Finally, after several conversations with Super Shuttle employees, we were shown to a car. After nearly an hour, my husband was ready to pay another company just to avoid waiting any longer. Arriving in Cancun, we were herded into a line in the sun to wait for our private transportation which was booked months in advance. The only source of aggravation and poor customer service during a ten-day trip was dealing with this company. Even the concierge from our hotel told us to never book with them and use other services in future I should have read these reviews before hand, but unorganised, late, dangerous driving and rude drivers are how I would describe the business. He seemed so angry and dangerous it has put me off organising any shuttles. He was shouting at other drives, cutting people up and almost getting into fights with other drivers. Everyone sat in silence as it was the worst drive ever. He was the worst driver I have ever encountered. He leapt out of the shuttle and grabbed our suitcases, whilst shouting ‘get in now!’ My mother was in the back of the shuttle and I got told to sit next to him in the front. When the driver turned up he was clearly stressed at being so late. The shuttle was over 30 minutes late and I had to phone the helpline to find out what happened to try work out if I needed to make my own way to the airport as I obviously had a flight to catch. However, the return from the hotel to JFK was awful. Driver was friendly but driving wasn’t the best. Transfer from JFK to hotel was complicated in the airport and disorganised. Old iPads, though, are where it’s really at, with their bigger displays giving prose more room to breathe. Whether you favor Apple Books, Kindle or a different service for your digital reading, an iPhone or iPod Touch makes for a great pocket-sized option when you fancy picking up a book – without grabbing one made from dead tree. Turn your device into a readerĪny reasonably recent iPhone, iPod touch or iPad will have an excellent screen, and that lends itself to reading. Check the terms and conditions, in case you need to make a call every so often for your credit to remain intact. If that’s the case, consider getting a dedicated number for your backup phone, on a no-contract pay-and-go carrier service. Consider resetting your old iPhone to factory settings, and then just having it hang around in case your other phone breaks.īe mindful of differing SIM card requirements, though – you may not be able to just swap a SIM between your new and old iPhones, especially with the best SIM only deals. If you’re the kind of person who can’t do without a cell phone, an older device will still do in the case of an emergency. For example, Apple Arcade requires iOS 13. So you’ll have to resign yourself to using older versions of some apps/games, and missing out on certain services. Secondly, you will at some point start to find that apps and services require a more recent iOS/iPadOS than your device can run. On that basis, ensure it’s running the very latest iOS update available, and plan to primarily use the device offline. First, it will get few – or perhaps even no – future security updates. If your old iPhone or iPad doesn't run iOS 14 or iPadOS 14 and you decide to keep hold of your device, there are two big issues to be aware of. Log out and reset your old Apple device before selling it (Image credit: Apple) Update it as much as possible Once that's done, go to Settings, tap your name in iCloud and sign out, then go to General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.Īs for where and how to sell, we’ll go into that in more depth in another article (it can be quite complex), but in (very) brief: cash-in-hand is the best bet for hardware, and if you sell online, be wary of scammers. Prior to selling your iPhone or iPad, take a back-up if you’ll later need to restore it to a new device. You must, though, be realistic regarding the return you’ll get on years-old kit that can no longer be upgraded. (Of course, your local recycling center may offer similar services.) Sell itĪpple products keep their value more than most. You'll get a bit for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but nothing any older.īut, when it comes to how to recycle your smartphone, Apple will at least dispose of your old kit for free, leaving you with that warm, fuzzy glow of knowing you haven’t messed up the environment by tossing it in the trash. Some features, applications, and services may not be available in all regions or all languages. You might be aware of Apple’s credit program in the US, UK and other territories – but you won’t get any money for most devices that can't run iOS 14. I know how delicate women's hormones are, and I would never choose to take anything to jeopardise my health and, as a result, suffer irreparable damage to my endocrine system. This was devastating news to me as I have never intentionally or knowingly put anything like that into my body. In early February of 2021, after returning from a difficult race season, I learned that the same sample from September was re-analysed due to a bio-passport irregularity and found to be positive for an exogenous anabolic steroid. I’ve received that same letter after every test I’ve submitted for the last 19 years. That news was communicated to me in the same way it has always been via a letter from USADA. I provided a sample for USADA in September 2020 that came back negative for any banned substances, it was not even atypical. I need to preface this news with the fact that I have always been a clean athlete, and I am proud of how much I have accomplished racing clean and being very careful with whatever I put into my body, especially after dealing with so many health issues throughout my life. This news comes with great heartache and sadness, and it is the worst possible way to end my cycling career. In addition, Compton has been disqualified from all competitive results obtained on and subsequent to September 16, 2020, including forfeiture of any medals, points and prizes,” it added.īesides her successes in cyclo-cross, Compton is also a two-time Paralympic champion, acting as tandem pilot to Karissa Whitsell at Athens in 2004. “Compton’s four-year period of ineligibility began on September 16, 2020, the date her positive sample was collected. “All AAS are Non-Specified Substances in the class of Anabolic Agents and are prohibited at all times under the USADA Protocol for Olympic and Paralympic Movement Testing, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee National Anti-Doping Policy, and the Union Cycliste Internationale Anti-Doping Rules, all of which have adopted the World Anti-Doping Code and the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List,” USADA said. “Anabolic agents have powerful performance-enhancing capabilities and can give an athlete an unfair advantage over fellow competitors,” the USADA statement continued. “Her urine sample was analysed using a specialised test, known as Carbon Isotope Ratio testing, that differentiates between anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) naturally produced by the body and prohibited anabolic agents of external origin. Today, the United States Anti-doping Agency (USADA) announced that the 42-year-old had “tested positive for an anabolic agent as the result of an out-of-competition drug test on September 16, 2020. The 42-year-old, who won the national title in cyclo-cross for 15 years in succession from 2004 to 2018, has enjoyed huge success on the cyclo-cross circuit, with 25 victories in World Cup races and has been one of the leading female riders in the discipline for almost two decades. The rider, who insists she always rode clean, has described the news as "soul crushing" but says she cannot afford to fight to clear her name. Katie Compton, 15 times a US national cyclo-cross champion and runner-up in the discipline at the world championships on four occasions, has been handed a four-year ban for doping. There's an undeniable sense of romance about this place, from its clean, classy aesthetic to its undeniably sexy views. What’s the real-real on why we’re coming here? Everything here is seamlessly choreographed, from the matching tweed waistcoats to the magically refilling glasses, and finally the freshly baked cookies pressed into your hand as you begin your elevator ride back to reality at the end of the evening. All of the staff are knowledgable, attentive and friendly. The service at Crown Block is exceptional. They are masters of their craft when it comes to the cooking side of the equation too, while the sides are equally excellent-don't miss the triple-cooked fries with black truffle mayonnaise in particular.Īnd how did the front-of-house folks treat you? When it comes to steaks, you have to be seriously good to make a name for yourself in a cow town like Dallas, and Crown Block does not disappoint, featuring everything from a well-marbled local Black Angus Flat Iron all the way up to a prime, 48oz bone-in Tomahawk, via everything in between. In terms of the latter, the avocado crunch roll is an unexpected vegetarian delight, while the truffle tuna cones are truly melt-in-the-mouth. Both are done to mouthwatering perfection. The menu has two main focal points: steak and sushi. Give us the lowdown-especially what not to miss. Obviously, befitting a restaurant of this quality and price point, the wine list is also full-bodied, and the knowledgeable staff will happily pair your meal with something deliciously pertinent. You could happily come up here just for the drinks and the view, and have a brilliant time: the cocktail bar is sleek and spectacular and the bar snacks (especially the wagyu croquetas) are superb. Once up at restaurant level, you need to check out The Lady Blau (a spicy, skinny margarita) or the Wild Honey-a naughty mezcal, lemon and honey ginger blend, with chili tincture. There's a very strong cocktail game here, which starts at street level with a complimentary beverage as you wait for your glass fronted elevator to whisk you up to the heavens. The general atmosphere is refined and almost serene, as servers glide about effortlessly and a show-stopping sunset is served up as the ultimate side dish. There are also a few small family or business groups, equally well dressed. Many are couples out to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, dressed to the nines. There's a strict dress code here-including no t-shirts, casual shorts, ripped jeans or ball caps-and the diners have obviously gotten the memo: dress up to travel up to the top of Reunion Tower. As the elevator opens onto the 18th floor restaurant, it's hard not to be blown away by the sight of downtown Dallas in all its glory, unfurling beyond the floor to ceiling windows. A rare steak and fine seafood restaurant, it's swiftly become a place for the big movers and shakers of the Big D to see and be seen since its opening in April 2023. Situated atop Dallas' iconic Reunion Tower, Crown Block boasts the best views in town-and also some of the best food. What were your first impressions when you arrived? |
